Lesson Plan 1: Pickleball
Create a visual depiction for each group that displays their needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles.
Brainstorm three problems that each group might wish to solve:
- Ability to learn to play the game
- Learn the rules of the game
- Ability to physically hit the ball

2. Computer functions
Presentation creation tool: Students will be introduced to the sport of Pickle-Ball through a slideshow presentation by the teacher (attached).
Browser/search engine: Students will then conduct research on the Internet and design a simple newsletter on the sport of Pickle-Ball.
3. Specific problem
Problem: Students have no knowledge on how to play pickleball or what it is. Students will work on specific sports skills of the serve, forehand, return, backhand return, the lob, the volley, smash and special shots. Students will also learn the rules and how to use the equipment and to play pickleball.

7. Student activities before computer use
Students identify newsletter worthy information to research
Identify a search strategy including key words and using “not”

Whole group discussion of the game rules.
Plan newsletter presentation.
Students will be given a hands-on skills post-test and complete a written test to evaluate their performance.

Introduction to creating a newsletter.
Invite the Journalism teacher to class to help the class regarding the newsletter.

Students work with partners of two, they can be coed. The partners will be paired with a range of abilities and varied learning styles. Students will work together to make sure student strengths are utilized to complete all aspects of the game and presentation. Adjustments will be made to accommodate ability issues.
